Glass Tidings and Joy

Fifteen years ago, Tom Holdman, owner and head designer of Holdman Studios, visited the Festival of Trees for the first time and had a dream to create a tree made entirely of glass. With every passing year, his vision for the tree would transform and grow. He is delighted that the pieces ultimately came together. Tom enlisted help from his brothers, Treavor and Richard Holdman, both respected artists in their own fields, to add to the final creation. Treavor is the head glass blower at the studio and Richard is the wizard of the lights and music (Click Here to see his Christmas Display). Their father, Floyd Holdman, taught them art at an early age as they helped him on photography assignments for National Geographic and other worldwide clients.

Holdman Studios has been doing art glass for 17 years. Their projects have been seen all over the world. They have also created the art glass for 14 LDS temples. The studio has sold glass sculptor and stained glass in all 50 states and worldwide. Their current 2 year project is of the History of Knowledge at the UVU library.

This years festival tree, Glass Tidings and Joy, is comprised of thousands of small pieces of glass melted together at 2000 degrees and hand blown to create 60 branches, the star, and around 150 ornaments. The eight artificial trees, as well as the 5 handcrafted leaded glass gift boxes, are all synchronized together with the main glass platter tree to create a dazzling holiday display of lights and music.

The blown glass tree was a huge success and was sold within hours of the festival opening. 100% of the money went to support Primary Childrens Medical Center.
